Miracles Through Prayer

By Bobbie Jean Merck

Stories of answered prayer have given witness to the miraculous power of prayer.  Where two or three or more are gathered together and agree in prayer, miraculous things happen. Things you are unaware of when you pray!

Hudson Taylor was a dedicated missionary to China years ago.  One night bandits came to his house with the intent to kill.  Suddenly, they came no further.  Later, being asked the reason for their change of behavior, they said the “eleven big men” at his house entrance were too much for them.  Yes, they were angles!  No human beings were there!

Hebrews 1:14, “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”

Later Rev. Taylor attended a convention in England as he visited his home land.  A pastor came up to him and very humbly apologized to him saying, “I called a prayer gathering for you, sensing urgency in doing so.  I apologize, Mr. Taylor, because only eleven of us were present.  Mr. Taylor asked the date and the number present again just to be certain of what he had been told.  Indeed, a miracle had happened as the people in England had prayed.  They were praying at the exact moment the bandits came to kill him and froze in their steps, gripped by fear as they “saw” the eleven huge men who were not human, but ANGELS: one for every prayer warrior!

Psalms 103:20, “Bless the LORD, ye his angels, that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word.”

Yes!  Such miraculous God interventions are happening all over the world today.  As we assembled Saturday morning, June 30th, at our Upper Room Assembly meeting, I sensed an urgency to pray.  Many were the prayers.  At one point I began to intercede for our military, specifically focusing on Iraq.  At that moment Brownie said to her husband, Jim, “Let us agree and pray for Scott.”  Scott is their nephew.

Jim and Brownie, Lori’s parents, later learned that sometime shortly after this prayer time that Scott was involved in a deadly ambush where he was injured.  A grenade exploded leaving a piece of shrapnel lodged in his neck.  The doctors discussed their astonishment amongst themselves and with Scott explaining that he was one “lucky” guy.  The shrapnel was only a hair line between his juggler (vein) and another vein.  Had it not taken this path, he would have quickly bled to death!  Scott quickly responded that it was not a matter of “luck” but that it was God!  He told them that it was God and the prayers of his family and friends that had kept him alive!

Scott gives all the credit and glory to God! He and his family truly believe “That prayer saved his life!”

1st LT Scott Smith will be awarded the Purple Heart for his heroic effort to save the life of his First Sergeant who was directly ahead of him at the time of the explosion and for recovering the other fallen soldier. Two brave soldiers -- the First Sergeant and another soldier, lost their lives during this battle.  We pray for these families especially during this time.

With great pride in our hearts we give honor and all due respect to every soldier and military personnel for their bravery and allegiance to God and the United States.  We pray diligently -- without ceasing, for each and every one and for their families and loved ones.

May God arise, may his enemies be scattered; may his foes flee before him.

Psalms 68:1 NIV

Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge.

Psalms 16:1 NIV

With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.

Psalms 60:12 NIV

But thanks be to God!  He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ

First Corinthians 15:57 NIV

As the angels work today in answer to prayer, it is a witness and testimony to the Lord Jesus Christ and His resurrection.  As He is denied by human beings on the earth, He is denying them before the angels in heaven.  As we pray on earth, our High Priest is interceding in heaven, and no doubt is speaking to the angels to “go forth.”

It is written in Isaiah 63:9, “In all their affliction he was afflicted, and the angel of his presence saved them: in his love and in his pity he redeemed them; and he bare them, and carried them all the days of old.”

Prayer and angels are mighty, strategic weapons of God as they work together.  Let us pray!

“…some have entertained angels unawares.”
