In God We Trust By Bobbie Jean Merck “Trust your affairs to the eternal, and your plans will prosper” (Proverbs 16:3 Moffatt). At this crucial time in the history of our world, the Church, and all that concerns us we are threatened to consider the circumstances rather than remaining on the bedrock of our faith. Such threatening is not a new thing to the soul. David was threatened with the temptation to distrust God. Others were encouraging him to do so. He responded with a powerful declaration. “In the LORD put I my trust: How say ye to my soul, “Flee as a bird to your mountain?” (Psalm 11:1). David stayed the course and refused to retreat. He refused to react by fleeing like a bird at the smallest (or largest) threat. He knew where his anchor and foundation were located. The devil works to ruin us by causing us to distrust God. Therefore, we must be on guard, and always declare our immovable trust in God and not in people, places, or things. In doing so our foundation and anchor remain secure and strong, and we will have unflinching courage to face our future. “If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?” (Psalm 11:3). “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us: Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil” (Hebrews 6:18-19). When trust is tested, it endures the test because our trust is in the support of the Almighty God. No one and nothing else can ultimately support us in all of these affairs of life. When we trust in God we are secure without fear. Trust is our security. To believe is to trust. Because Jesus Christ revealed the trustworthy character of God, I believe in miracles because I believe in God! Trust is the condition of having your confidence placed in someone. You trust them. Such trust results in their obligation to you and your trust in them to perform in a manner worthy of your trust. To be trustworthy is to be dependable and reliable. Certainly our God is that. To trust God means we are expecting Him to hasten to perform His Word for all that concerns us. We put people, places, or things in His custody and care. When someone is placed in custody of the law, the law enforcement assumes the responsibility, the provision, and the protection of that person. I love to meditate on the fact that trust according to Webster’s Dictionary also means “a legal title to property held by one party for the benefit of another.” Selah. God has our covenant (which includes all the New Covenant provisions in Christ) in His hands for our benefit! He is waiting for us to trust Him so He can “daily load us with benefits.” May our trust in God be enlargened. “Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men!” (Psalm 31:19). “Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee” (Psalm 33:20-22). “The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him” (Psalm 28:7).
